How to Care for Your Floors
After your floors are installed you will need to wait at least two weeks for them to acclimate to the temperature and moisture levels in your house before we can sand them. During this time you can continue to walk on your floors and carry on your normal daily routines. If you spill something on the wood be sure to wipe it off the floor but you do not need to worry about staining them or getting them dirty since they will be sanded. A lot of times our customers with children let them draw and color on the floors with crayons and non-permanent markers and we sand it right off.
Once your floors are sanded we will apply three coats of polyurethane. You will need to be very careful in between these coats. It takes approximately 24 hours for each coat to dry so you don't want to leave footprints in the floor.
After the final coat you will need to wait a full 24 hours before placing your furniture on your new floors. Never slide anything on the floors. Pick the furniture up and place it where you want it. You should purchase felt pads to stick on the bottoms and feet of all of your furniture to protect your floors.
It is best to clean your hardwood floors with a damp terry cloth mop. Never clean your floors with any kind of oil based or wax cleaning solutions. A mixture of one gallon of water and 1/4 cup of vinegar is all that you need to use to mop your floors. It is also safe to use a steam mop on hardwood flooring.
Every two and a half to three years you should have your floors buffed and coated. As long as you have not applied any kind of wax or oil on the floor the finish will adhere with no problem.
